    About

    What is BreakTimer.com?

BreakTimer.com is a free online work and study timer built around the Pomodoro Technique — a proven productivity method that alternates focused work sessions with short rest breaks. A built-in task list lets you plan your work, track which task you're focusing on, and see exactly how many sessions each task took to complete. By pairing structured intervals with intentional task management, you stay focused, reduce mental fatigue, and finish more each day without burning out.

    How it works

    The Timer Cycle

    • Work session — The top task on your list becomes your focus. Work deeply for your set duration (default 25 min) and commit to that one task.
    • Short break — Rest briefly (default 5 min). Stretch, hydrate, or simply look away from your screen before the next session.
    • Long break — After your set number of short breaks (default 3), reward yourself with a longer rest (default 15 min).
    • Session tracking — Each completed work session is automatically counted on the active task, so you always know how much effort went into each item.
    • Repeat — Each full cycle resets and begins again automatically if auto-start is enabled.
    How to use

    Getting Started

    • Add your tasks for the day in the task list on the right. Type a task and press Enter, or paste a multi-line list to add several at once.
    • Drag tasks to reorder them — the top task is always the one being worked on.
    • Press the play button to start your first work session. The active task is shown below the task list header.
    • Check off a task when it's done — it moves to the Completed section and the next task becomes active.
    • Open ⚙ Settings (top right) to customize durations, sounds, themes, and auto-start.
    • Enable push notifications in Settings so you're alerted even when the tab is in the background.
    • Use Clear completed to remove finished tasks and keep your list tidy.
    Tips

Getting the Most Out of It

    • Add all your tasks before starting the timer and drag them into priority order — the top task is where your focus goes first.
    • Keep tasks small enough to finish in one or two sessions. If the session badge climbs past three, consider breaking the task down.
    • During work sessions, close unrelated tabs and put your phone face-down — protect the focus your task deserves.
    • Use short breaks to move your body — even a 1-minute walk helps reset concentration before the next session.
    • Enable Auto-start break so transitions are seamless and you don't have to remember to take breaks.
    • The long break is most effective as a real mental reset — step outside or away from your screen if you can.
    • Aim for 4–6 completed sessions per working day. The session badges on your completed tasks tell the honest story of where your time went.
